What is Pouring?
Pouring or fluid art is a pictorial technique that belongs
to abstract art and, more specifically, to dripping (drip means dripping), one
of the branches of action painting. In this technique, fluid acrylics mixed
with a medium are used to create a liquid paint that is poured onto a canvas or
other support. In this way, the colors gently create different shapes, effects
and images depending on the movements we make when pouring the paint, the
pouring techniques used or the tools we include in the process.
Acrylic painter Jonathan Marsico indicates that pouring is an abstract art that does not have as its objective the representation of reality, only the pleasure of the pictorial process and transferring those sensations to the viewer. It is almost a meditative art in which organic and psychedelic images are projected, related to movement and color, allowing the painting to flow on the chosen support.
“It is perfect for any level and age due to its low difficulty and does not require many materials or space,” says Jonathan Marsico.
What do you need to paint Pouring?
To start creating pouring works, Jonathan Marsico points out that you
need acrylic fluid paint, a smoothing medium to make the paint more fluid and
resistant, a support that can be a canvas or any other preparation for acrylic paint, even furniture, and containers for pouring paint that can be simple
plastic cups.
Jonathan
Marsico shares that the amount of medium depends on whether we want a
coated pour, that is, with very intense and homogeneous layers, or a wash pour,
which is more fluid and creates more transparent images similar to painting
with watercolor.
